Grandstream FXS & FXO VoIP Gateways in Pakistan
Connect analog phones, fax machines, intercoms and PSTN lines to a modern SIP phone system. TekkPak designs, supplies, configures and supports Grandstream gateway solutions for businesses across Pakistan.

Quick answer
Do you need an FXS or FXO gateway?
An FXS gateway provides dial tone and ringing voltage to analog phones, fax machines, modems, lift phones, door phones or legacy PBX extensions, then connects them to a SIP based IP PBX or hosted VoIP service.
An FXO gateway receives analog PSTN lines from a telecom operator and presents them as SIP trunks to Grandstream UCM, 3CX or another compatible IP PBX.
Simple rule: the gateway port connects to the opposite interface. An analog telephone plugs into FXS. A telephone company analog line plugs into FXO. PRI, E1, GSM and native SIP trunks need different interfaces.

Grandstream gateway model selector
Choose what you need to connect and the required capacity. The selector provides a planning recommendation, which TekkPak can confirm after checking line type, PBX, cabling and site conditions.
Your requirements
Start with the interface direction. Port count comes next.
Planning recommendation
Four FXS ports for analog endpoints
A strong fit for four analog phones, fax machines or other approved analog devices that must register to a SIP platform.
Confirm fax protocol, analog device compatibility, SIP credentials, cable termination and surge protection before ordering.
Decision guide
FXS versus FXO gateway comparison
The labels describe how a port behaves electrically and operationally. Choosing by connector shape alone is a common and costly mistake.
| Requirement | FXS gateway | FXO gateway | Typical Grandstream family |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connects to | Analog phone, fax, intercom, lift phone or legacy extension | Analog PSTN line or an analog trunk port | HT v2 / GXW4200 v2 for FXS; HT841 / HT881 for FXO |
| Provides dial tone | Yes. The FXS port supplies line voltage, dial tone and ringing | No. It receives service from the analog line | Check loop current and ringing requirements for specialist devices |
| SIP role | Registers analog endpoints to the IP PBX or SIP service | Converts analog trunks into SIP connectivity for the IP PBX | Compatible SIP platform and dial plan are required |
| Best fit | Preserving analog devices during VoIP migration | Retaining existing analog operator lines with a modern PBX | Hybrid migration with phased replacement |
| Not suitable for | Incoming PSTN line termination | Direct connection of ordinary analog telephones | PRI/E1, GSM or a native SIP trunk without the correct interface |
Technical note: actual interoperability depends on PBX support, operator signalling, regional tones, caller ID method, cable length, device current requirements, codecs, network quality and configuration.
Industry use cases
Where analog gateways still create value
The best migration is not always a rip and replace project. Gateways let organizations modernize call control while retaining useful analog assets.
Hotels & Hospitality
Connect large numbers of guest room phones to an IP PBX while preserving existing room cabling. Use FXO where analog outside lines must remain available.
Healthcare
Integrate ward phones, reception sets, hotlines, selected fax workflows and approved emergency analog devices into a centrally managed voice platform.
Education
Retain classroom, hostel, security desk and administration analog phones across schools, universities and distributed campuses.
Manufacturing
Bridge rugged analog phones, guard posts, plant hotlines and legacy extensions while the core PBX and office users move to SIP.
Banking & Finance
Support controlled migrations of legacy voice endpoints and operator lines, subject to the organization's recording, security and compliance design.
Retail Chains
Connect branch analog devices to centralized or hosted communications and retain local analog lines where operationally required.
Public Sector
Phase the migration of established analog extensions across offices without replacing every handset, cable and endpoint at once.
Property & Facilities
Integrate lift phones, gate intercoms, reception phones and emergency lines after confirming electrical and regulatory compatibility.
