Which Grandstream access point is best for my office?
The best model depends on WiFi generation, floor plan, wall material, coverage, concurrent clients, application mix, uplink speed and PoE availability. A site survey and capacity plan are more reliable than choosing only by advertised range.
Do I need a managed switch or an unmanaged switch?
An unmanaged switch can suit simple expansion. A managed switch is usually better when you need VLANs, traffic priority, monitoring, controlled PoE, uplink management, redundancy or separation of staff, guest, voice, CCTV and IoT traffic.
What is the difference between a router and an access point?
A router connects networks and typically controls internet access, addressing, firewall and VPN policies. An access point provides wireless connectivity to an existing network. Some compact products combine both roles, while larger business networks normally separate them.
Can Grandstream connect two offices through VPN?
Yes. Compatible GWN VPN routers can be used to create secure site to site connectivity. The design must account for IP addressing, routes, firewall policy, VPN type, ISP conditions, bandwidth, redundancy and the applications being carried.
Can one platform manage Grandstream routers, switches and access points?
Compatible GWN devices can be centrally managed through options such as GDMS Networking, GWN Manager or supported embedded controllers. The appropriate option depends on scale, deployment model and organizational policy.
How many WiFi access points does my building need?
There is no dependable answer based on square footage alone. Quantity and placement depend on RF survey findings, walls, floors, interference, ceiling height, client density, roaming, outdoor areas and the minimum signal and capacity targets.
Can a PoE switch power access points, IP phones and CCTV cameras?
Yes, when device standards and power requirements are compatible. The design must check per port capability and the total PoE budget, allow headroom and consider whether critical devices need UPS backed power.
